Carolina Mustard BBQ Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 c. yellow mustard
  • 1/2 c. apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 c. dark brown sugar or maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp. hot sauce or Laoganma chili crisp
  • 2 tbsp. vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tbsp. crushed Sichuan pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 2-4 tbsp. fresh dill, chopped.

Preparation:

  1. Dump all the listed ingredients except the dill in a sauce pan and heat to a low simmer, stirring to keep the sauce smooth. Let simmer for 10 - 15 minutes while stirring frequently. Immediately after removing from heat add the fresh dill. Let cool.

If not using immediately refrigerate and use up to 7 days. Sauce may also be canned in a mason jar to be stored up to three months, refrigerated.

Notes:

Instead of hot sauce you can also use Laoganma chili oil crisps and such. This sauce is great on tofu or anything else you wish to BBQ. The recipe can be easily adjusted if you wish for a simpler, less spicier sauce just omit the Sichuan pepper, cayenne, and hot sauce. Definitely not for the faint of heart.
