Avant-garde

How would you define avant-garde? What would you count as avant-garde and what not. Do you think it has any place is the contemporary philosophy?

Sorry for the late response, been really low-energy lately. Really, I just think it's anything that pushes the boundaries in an eccentric, forward-thinking manner. I would consider most post-modern art to be in that category as it is a broad term that literally just means "advance-guard".

Today's avant-garde movements can be seen post-modern art genres such as vaporware and hyperpop in terms of music but culturally I think solarpunk aesthetic and furry are also great examples of in-your-face, political and culturally forward-thinking movements.

The reason for the term feeling dated is more-so an artifact of it being used to define and describe the past movements of its time. I don't think avant-garde is dead or irrelevant, it's just not a term that is often used. However, maybe it is time for it to make a comeback for art that shamelessly and unambiguously pushes the boundaries.

When fowrard-thinking no longer has any place in philosophy is when the fascists have won and imposed that on us all by force. While I can easily imagine such a world given our current unfortunate course, I shudder to think of such a world.

Yeah we could define a new terms regarding avant-garde however our art, philosophy, ideologies are in a clogged up state. Just like during the worldwar and in the interwar period. I believe there is going to be a breakthrough sooner or later. As we are organic-dynamic. Just like the past this clog-up has always happened. I mean look at the philosophy right now. We have people dogmatizing the past ideas. We have people going really crazy with aesthetics and philosophy post-68. I believe something is going to break but i don't know. I don't know how or what will be the new definition.

I just know everything looks bleak and stale. But life finds a way. Life always finds a way.
